By Lori O’Neill, Superstar Consultant

Eleven years ago, I wasn’t looking to build a business. I was a military spouse with a husband who was deployed often, quiet hours to fill, and a need earn money from home without missing time with him when he was back.

I needed a flexible side hustle that worked around my life, not the other way around.

Scentsy became my “something to do.” It became so much more.

The Early Days: Barely Qualifying, Fully Believing

My launch party just barely qualified. But I walked away with hostess rewards, a little confidence, and Level 1 of Scentsational Start.

I remember opening my starter kit and thinking, “I can do this.”

That kit, that first “yes,” was the start of skills I didn’t know I had.

The Climb: Director, a Team of 30, and Stage Walks

Over the next few years, something amazing happened. I grew a team of almost 30 incredible people. I earned the title of Director and walked that stage for the first time — heart pounding, tears in my eyes.

I earned incentives, gained confidence, and learned how to lead. Scentsy pulled strengths out of me I never knew existed. Last year, I got to walk the stage again for my 10-year anniversary with Scentsy. That moment reminded me why I started.

The Hard Seasons: When Recruiting Got Hard and Rank Slipped

I’ll be honest — the last couple years have been tough.

My team dwindled. I lost my Director title. Recruiting still doesn’t come easy for me. There were months I wondered if I should quit.

But I didn’t. Because this business was never just about rank.

This is what kept me going: making samples, mailing happy mail, and connecting with customers one envelope at a time.

I’m now a Superstar Consultant — one level below Director. My team is small, mostly hobbyists, but my customer base is strong and loyal. And I realized: impact isn’t always measured in team size.

How I Run My Business Today: Email, Events, and One-on-One Heart

Scentsy taught me how to adapt. Today I run my business through email marketing, online + in-person parties, vendor events, and 1:1 consultations.

love making samples and mailing them out. There’s something special about knowing a little wax sample might be the bright spot in someone’s mailbox.

Then vs Now: The Kit May Change, The Opportunity Doesn’t

Today’s $99 kit. Fragrance Flower, Scentsy warmer, Clean line, Cotton Cleanups. Contents subject to change based on availability. But the chance to start? That’s always there.

The packaging is different. The products have evolved. But the heart of Scentsy — sharing fragrance, building relationships, working around what matters most — that hasn’t changed in 11 years.

What Scentsy Gave Me: Beyond the Paycheck

Yes, Scentsy has helped with family income. But what it gave me that I didn’t expect:

  • Lifelong friendships with people who became family
  • Community when military life felt isolating
  • Time with my husband when he was home, because I built this around our life
  • Confidence I carry into every part of my life

To You, Thinking About Joining: Go For It

If you’re wondering if Scentsy is for you, here’s what I’ll tell you after 11 years:

You don’t have to be a salesperson. You don’t need a big team. You don’t need to have it all figured out.

You just need a reason to start.

For me, it was something to do while my husband was deployed. For you, it might be extra income, community, a creative outlet, or time freedom.

Whatever it is — go for it. You just may find what you’re looking for, and so much more.
