Picture this…you just spent hours cleaning your entire house, it feels clean and looks clean but there’s still something off. You can still smell an odor. You think to yourself “How is this possible? I just cleaned.” You wonder what is happening.

If you read my last post you already know that odors don’t just live on the surface—they hide in fabrics, air, and those easy-to-miss places around your home.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize…

👉 A fresh-smelling home isn’t about cleaning more.
👉 It’s about being intentional with scent.

Let’s talk about how to actually make your home smell amazing all day long—not just for a few minutes after cleaning.

Clean vs. Fresh: What’s the Difference?

Cleaning removes dirt, grime, and bacteria (which is important, of course).

But “clean” doesn’t always equal “smells amazing.”

That’s because:

  • Odors cling to soft surfaces like couches, carpets, and curtains
  • Airflow (or lack of it) can trap smells inside
  • Everyday life (cooking, pets, laundry, kids) constantly adds new scents back into your space

So even after a deep clean… your home can still smell a little off.

👉 That’s where scent comes in.

If you want your home to smell amazing consistently, you need more than a cleaning routine…

You need a scent strategy.

The 3-Step “ELM” Method

This is the method and steps that I not only am going to teach you, but I use in my own home.

Step 1: Eliminate (Don’t Just Mask)

Before adding any fragrance, you want to tackle the source.

Think:

  • Trash cans
  • Sinks and drains
  • Pet areas
  • Laundry baskets
  • Couches

This doesn’t have to be overwhelming—just be mindful of the areas where odors like to hang out.

👉 Because here’s the truth:
If you try to add fragrance on top of odor, it never smells quite right.

What I use is Scentsy Fresh. Spritz on hard-to-wash fabrics to eliminate odors and add a burst of Scentsy fragrance. I use this on my mattress, couch, dog bed and pillows. Plus my headboard is made of fabric. Do not use on delicate fabrics, including silk, suede and leather. Spot test a small inconspicuous area to ensure there is no staining.

Step 2: Layer Your Scents

This is where the magic happens ✨

Instead of relying on one strong scent in one spot… you want to gently layer fragrance throughout your home.

Try this:

  • Entryway: first impression scent
  • Living room: warm, inviting fragrance
  • Bedroom: soft, calming scent

When scent is layered, your home feels cohesive—not overpowering.

It’s the difference between:
👉 “Whoa, that’s strong…”
and
👉 “Why does it smell SO good in here?”

I use various Scentsy products for this. Check them out.

Step 3: Maintain (Consistency Over Intensity)

Here’s a little secret…

Strong bursts of fragrance don’t last.
But consistent, gentle scent? That’s what people remember.

Instead of constantly trying to “fix” the smell in your home, focus on keeping a steady, welcoming scent going.

👉 Think of it like background music… not a loud speaker.

I change my scents out frequently to keep the consistent scent in my own home.

Create a Home That Feels Like an Escape

Imagine walking in after a long day…

The second you open the door, you’re greeted with a scent that instantly makes you feel calm, cozy, and at peace 😌

Or having guests walk in and say:
👉 “Your house always smells amazing.”

That’s not luck.
That’s intentional.

And the best part?

You don’t have to clean more.
You just have to scent smarter.

If you’ve ever wanted your home to feel like a relaxing oasis (without constantly re-cleaning everything), I’d love to help you create that.

Because the right scent doesn’t just make your home smell good…

It changes how your home feels.
